If you want to buy a good sound system, there are many factors to consider, such as the listening environment (computer desktop, living room); whether the function is to make a home theater or play pure music; if music, what type of music (classical, modern, Piano, symphony, pop, rock, etc.); budget range; speaker appearance style requirements; what kind of signal source, etc., it is really not easy to pick a set of satisfactory speakers.
If you only consider the sound quality, how to choose speakers with good sound quality? First of all, there is no best sound quality, only better, and good sound quality speakers are suitable for you. Generally speaking, it is generally recognized that "high fidelity" is good sound quality. The key point is to choose a high-fidelity speaker. The most basic point is to choose a speaker with a large-diameter woofer as much as possible. If you want to listen, listen to the big speaker.
Because there are three principles for true sound reproduction (high fidelity):
The speaker has a wide and flat frequency range. It is not only the axial frequency range in the traditional sense, but also includes the frequency response range with uniform sound power within a certain radiation angle, that is, the directivity of the speaker system is better.
Dynamic range (the range of sound from the slightest to the loudest), all modern speakers have a reduction in the dynamic range, which is not completely true reproduction. Recovering as much dynamic range as possible is an important indicator for measuring high-fidelity speakers.
The sound quality is natural and true, the lower the distortion, the better, especially under high sound pressure and high power.
These three aspects are directly related to the performance of the sound, and a properly designed speaker system, no matter the size, there is no big gap between the middle and high frequency bands, the gap is mainly at the low frequency, and the low frequency extension is not easy to do well. A good low frequency is proportional to the volume of air that the speaker system can exchange per second, that is, the volume velocity, that is, driving more air in a unit time, you can get a better low frequency, which is the principle of physical acoustics. The large-diameter subwoofer has a large effective vibration radiation area, it can easily drive large volumes of air, and it is easy to reproduce at low frequencies, so the most reliable way to obtain bass is to choose a large-diameter woofer system as much as possible. (You can also use several small-diameter woofers to obtain the same vibration area as a large-diameter speaker by working in series and parallel. For example, the vibration area of two 8-inch bass is equivalent to a 11.3-inch bass.)
Of course, the large-diameter speaker system does not mean that its sound must be good. The low-frequency of the large-diameter speaker system is difficult to design. If the design is not good, the bass sound will be bad, poor control, and muddy. Therefore, designing a correct large-diameter speaker system lays a solid foundation for the system to produce good sound on an objective basis. Generally speaking, large-diameter bass speakers with good sound quality are very expensive, which is what experts often say "bass is expensive".
But what is certain is that a small-caliber speaker, the bass is definitely not good, because the small-caliber speaker cannot exchange a large amount of air in a short period of time. If you want to exchange a reasonable maximum air volume, a longer Stroke, most long-stroke small-caliber speakers often have various types of distortion. Many small speakers essentially filter out the bass to make the hearing cleaner. The mid-band sound quality of the human voice may be better, but there can be no huge bass, especially the extension and dynamics of low frequencies.
In addition to the need for a large-diameter woofer, good low-frequency playback also requires a large cabinet. why? For example, a rigid closed small box, the air inside is equivalent to an air cushion, it has a reaction force, and it ca n’t blow in or inhale. To exchange the volume, a larger cabinet is needed to cooperate with it. Therefore, the volume of professional-grade music monitor speakers is between 50 liters and 150 liters, and the diameter of a single woofer is more than ten inches.
